Messages. 91. May 14, 2011. #1. Just installed my 1989 Cobra outdrive on a OMC 5.0L. The outdrive is bolted to the pivot but not torqued yet. I tested out the shifting and it is very hard to get into gear, forward and reverse. Reverse does not engage, the prop still spins freely. Cracked washer that fell off the Low-Reverse servo rod so that the rod was loose and the washer fragments were in the case. 2. That is what needs to be adjusted so that reverse is where it is supposed to be. As far as the sudden jerking when letting out the clutch, try letting off the peddle slowly.
