Pretty easy. I've done that on every game years ago, pretty fast and easy. Just maybe a lack of informations about Gen 2, but everything can be found on 10 seconds. The problem with save states is that if you start the battle on the same frame, you'll always get the same RNG and the same DVs, which doesn't happen with A+B+Start+Select.
