Marlin 39a serial number

Feb 15, 2016 · According to the charts my serial number indicates 1983, but that is impossible as I have been shooting this since before that time. here are the facts, and any help would be greatly appreciated Marlin model 39A ser# 17826 I have used this rifle since at least 1967 and it wasn't brand new then.

This particular Marlin Model 39 is a lever-action .22 rimfire rifle, manufactured by Marlin between 1921 and 1937. The "A" prefix would indicate 1939 (very unusual to find an "A" prefix gun). But, Marlin did not make the Mountie until 1953. So, you may have a Model 39-A rifle that has had the barrel replaced with a Mountie barrel, forearm and magazine tube. OR.....you have a doube "A" prefix, or "AA", indicating 1965.
