Reedsburg is proud to have been the "Butter Capital of America" in the late sixties, seventies and eighties, when our local milk processing plant produced more butter than any other place in the world! To celebrate that fact, our Butter Festival was born, and for over 50 years Butterfest has been one of the great traditions of Reedsburg.Just west, across the Baraboo River from downtown Reedsburg, James Babb registered his claim in 1848. He cultivated some of the prairie, used the timber to build a log house and thus became the first white man to become a permanent resident in this area.
