Student doctor network cardiology fellowship
Hi all, I am done with interviews for the season. I have a pretty good idea about my rank list, but I have trouble ranking these 3 programs. MGH, Hopkins, BI. They are all clearly very strong programs with great reputations, and I am sure I will receive fantastic training in any of the three places.The fellowship is set up in Charleston, SC. The training culture is academic, with the hospital being the only large medical tertiary center in the State. Training is 1 year, with structural, peripheral and coronary exposure. Fellows usually complete fellowship with 350-400 interventions, 60 TAVR’s, and 10 mitral clips.

I am looking for some advice and possibly people who have managed to get into cardiology fellowship despite not applying during residency. In my case I will be offcycle due to visa Issues, I have applied for J1 previously before and didn't get it on time and had to reapply for residency again.DOs in cardiology exist, but are in the minority. There is definite bias here as some fellowships will not interview any DOs (or IMGs) as a screening method. My program had 450+ applications and interviewed 70 for a class of <10 first-years. Mar 24, 2010. #4. I wouldn't recommend any fellowship or specialty change unless you think you will like it, but i also understand that can be hard to know before you actually practice it. I also feel that the "unfinished" feeling to not doing a fellowship is a bias, not true, and something you will get over.Bottom line is that an IMG @ a community program will find it difficult to match into cardiology. Not saying it's impossible, but as you said, the odds are not in one's favor. Not if he is applying to a cardiology fellowship at his community program.
